These terms govern your use of the Yami iOS app, the share extension, the yamiapp.eu website, and anything else we offer under the Yami name (together, "Yami" or "the Service"). Yami is operated by Adam Bergman Karlsson, based in Sweden — references to "we", "us", or "the operator" mean that. By creating an account or using Yami, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Yami.
Contact: support@yamiapp.eu.
To use Yami you need to create an account with an email address and password. You confirm that you are at least 18 years old, that the information you provide is accurate, and that you are not using Yami in a country, or in a way, that's prohibited by applicable law.
You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account. One human per account, please. If you suspect your account has been accessed by someone else, email us right away at support@yamiapp.eu.
Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Yami on Apple devices you own or control, for personal and non-commercial use, in accordance with the App Store's Standard EULA.
You agree not to:
We may modify, add, or remove features at any time, with or without notice, including changing how imports work, how shared collections operate, what's included in the free or paid tier, or what third-party sources are supported.
We aim to respond to support requests at support@yamiapp.eu within two business days, but we don't guarantee any specific level of support, response time, or service availability.
Yami, including the app, the website, the artwork, the wordmark, the database, the code, and the original content we ourselves publish, is owned by the operator and protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that ownership to you.
If you send us suggestions, feature requests, bug reports, or feedback, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to use that feedback to improve Yami. You don't owe us feedback, and we don't owe you payment for it.
Yami is launched primarily for the European Union, but the App Store may make it available in other regions. Some features (translations, regional content, regional pricing) depend on Apple's region and language settings on your device.
Anything you put into Yami is "your content": recipes you import, photos you take or upload, notes you write, ratings, the names of your collections, the membership of your shared collections, what you've marked as cooked, and any feedback or messages you send through the app.
To make Yami work — to show your library back to you, sync it across your devices, generate AI plate images and translations, share collections with people you've explicitly invited, and back up your data — you grant the operator a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, display, transmit, process, and create technical derivative works (e.g. translations, AI plate images, indexed previews) of your content. This license is solely for operating, securing, improving, and supporting Yami. It ends when you delete your account, except to the extent necessary for technical backup, dispute resolution, or compliance with law.
We don't sell your content. We don't license it to advertisers. We don't use it to train external machine-learning models that would benefit anyone other than you using Yami.
You promise that your content does not, and will not, infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, or any other rights of any third party; that you have all rights necessary to grant us the license in 3.2; and that your use of imported third-party material falls within personal-use principles or another applicable basis.
Don't use Yami to:
We reserve the right (but have no obligation) to review, refuse, edit, or remove any content at our sole discretion, with or without notice, particularly when we receive a takedown notice or detect abuse. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially violate these rules.
If you believe content on Yami infringes your copyright, please follow the procedure on our Copyright & Takedown Policy. The Copyright FAQ at /copyright explains how Yami works and how takedowns are handled.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operator from and against any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
Yami links out to third-party services — recipe websites, social platforms, the App Store, payment processors. We don't control those services and aren't responsible for their content, terms, privacy practices, or availability. Following an outbound link from Yami is at your own discretion.
When you use a shared collection, you're interacting with other Yami users. We don't review, screen, or vet the content other members add to a shared collection. We're not responsible for the conduct or content of other users — your dispute is with them, not us. You can leave a shared collection, or remove a member you own, at any time inside the app.
Yami contains two distinct kinds of content, treated differently under these terms:
Where the line between the two is ambiguous (for example, an AI-generated plate image attached to a user-saved recipe), the AI-generated portion is operator-provided and the underlying user-saved content stays user content.
Yami uses AI in several places: extracting structured recipes from imported URLs, translating recipes into your preferred language, generating plate images for the recipe-card surface, and generating the recipes in the "Popular Recipes" section. We label AI-generated content where it's reasonable to do so. AI output isn't perfect — always check ingredients, allergens, cooking times, and food-safety steps yourself, especially if you have allergies, dietary restrictions, or medical conditions.
Shared collections are designed for sharing recipes with the people you actually cook with — your partner, your family, your roommates, your group chat. Each shared collection is limited to 6 members. Invite codes are single-use and expire in 24 hours. There is no public discovery, no search, no broadcast.
When you generate or accept an invite, you affirm that the invitation is for sharing within a household, family, or close-friend circle, and not for commercial use, public distribution, or large-group content sharing. We may suspend accounts that use shared collections in a manner inconsistent with this purpose.
When you import a recipe from a website, social platform, or photo, Yami extracts publicly visible information so you can read it inside the app for personal use. Content imported from social media or the open web remains the property of the original creator. Yami credits the source where one is available and stores the import for the importing user's personal organisation only. The non-infringement promise in §3.3 and the takedown procedure on the Copyright & Takedown Policy page govern this content.
Some features (a larger monthly allowance for imports, cookbook scans, and AI chef requests; shared collections) require an active Yami Premium subscription, sold as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple's App Store.
New subscribers may receive a free trial. The trial automatically converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
Prices are set per region by Apple and shown to you on the in-app paywall before you confirm purchase.
Open the iOS Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions → Yami → Cancel Subscription. We don't process cancellations directly.
All refunds are handled by Apple under their refund policy. Request via reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple usually responds within 48 hours.
Yami is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we expressly disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and continuous availability.
We try hard to make Yami reliable, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service, accurate parsing of every recipe from every source, accurate AI translations, accurate ingredient or nutrition information, or that recipes are safe to cook for any particular person. Recipes are imported from third-party sources or generated automatically — always check ingredients and instructions yourself if you have allergies, dietary restrictions, or medical conditions.
To the maximum extent permitted by Swedish and EU law, Yami and the operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from or related to your use of the Service — including loss of data, loss of profits, loss of goodwill, business interruption, or substitute services — even if we were advised of the possibility.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to these terms or your use of Yami is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) €50.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including your statutory rights as a consumer. If you are a consumer in the EU, your statutory rights apply regardless of anything in this section.
We may suspend or terminate your access to Yami if you materially violate these terms (including the Acceptable Use rules in §3.4 or the shared-collection rules in §5.5) or if your use of the Service threatens the security, integrity, or operation of Yami or the experience of other users.
You can delete your account at any time inside the app under Settings → Account → Delete account. You can cancel a Yami Premium subscription via Apple's Subscriptions screen as described in §6.5.
On termination, your account and content are deleted within 30 days; certain backups, audit logs, and dispute records may persist for up to 90 days. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including §3.3, §4, §7, §8, §10, and §11 — survive.
If a change in applicable law makes it impractical or unlawful to continue providing Yami in your region, we may terminate the Service for affected users with notice.
We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. If a change materially affects you, we'll notify you in-app or by email and (where required by law) ask for your consent. Continued use of Yami after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you don't accept a change, you can delete your account before the change takes effect; we'll refund the unused portion of an annual subscription on a pro-rata basis where required by law.
These terms, and any dispute arising from or related to them or your use of Yami, are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Disputes that can't be resolved by writing to us at support@yamiapp.eu are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Sweden, except where consumer-protection laws give you the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
To the extent enforceable in your jurisdiction, you and the operator agree that any claim will be brought on an individual basis, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative proceeding, and that each party waives any right to a jury trial. These waivers do not apply where prohibited by mandatory law in your jurisdiction (which includes most EU member states for consumer disputes).
You may not use Yami in violation of any export control or sanctions law applicable to you.
You consent to receiving communications from us electronically (in-app, by email, by push notification). Notices we send electronically satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, the Copyright & Takedown Policy, the Copyright FAQ, and Apple's Standard EULA, are the entire agreement between you and Yami regarding the Service.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect, and the unenforceable part will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.
You may not transfer your account or these terms to anyone else without our written consent. We may assign these terms in connection with a sale or transfer of the business, with notice to you.
